Some people choose to just repair the surface problems of a shifting foundation by sealing cracks. However, that does not get to the root of the problem. At Connecticut Basement Systems, we recommend installing foundation piers to stabilize, repair, and restore a foundation that's been damaged by foundation settlement and poor supporting soils.
A telltale sign of shifting soils beneath the foundation is a cracked floor slab. Sometimes the floor crack alone can settle. However, coupled with the cracked walls, our team knew that the whole foundation was settling.
The first step to stabilizing the foundation and installing push piers is to dig around the foundation. A section of the foundation footing is then exposed and cut to attach to each pier's bracket.
Foundation brackets are secured to the footing, and tubular pier sections are hydraulically driven through each bracket. Pier sections continue to be driven downwards until the piers meets competent strata.
When all push piers have been installed, the piers will work in unison to transfer the weight of the structure to the strong soils or bedrock below.
At this time, our foundation contractors will determine if the foundation should remain at its stabilized location or be lifted back to its original position. Following this final stabilization, slabs are repaired and soil is replaced to totally hide the repair.
After all the work is done and the foundation is raised, the area our team dug is backfilled. Each of our pier systems includes a 25-year warranty against manufacturer's defects, as well as our own in-house performance warranty. Push piers are a permanent solution to foundation settlement problems!
There are usually a number of different soil layers underneath a house. The foundation settlement occured here when one of these soil layers couldn't support the weight of the home. We fixed the foundation settlement issues by installing steel foundation piers. These piers will extend beneath the foundation, contacting strong supporting soils that permanently stabilized this home!
