Insulation and Waterproofing Installation in Mystic, CT

The old insulation and waterproofing methods in this Mystic, CT family's home was beginning to take a toll on their home. The house's original rim joist insulation was old, and costing them quite a bit on their energy bills. The rim joist is an area often overlooked when it comes to home insulation, and it is also a huge source of energy loss. On top of that, their old sump pump and waterproofing system just wasn't running like it used to. They gave us a call at Connecticut Basement to help fix the problem, and we were more than happy to come and take a look!

Once we diagnosed this houses problem with our system design specialist, we hopped right to work! We first removed all of the home's old insulation, and went ahead and installed our own Rim Joist Insulation. To do this, we used a closed cell spray foam. Closed cell foam cures dense and hard and is heavier than open cell foam. It forms an effective barrier against both moisture and air, making it hard for cold air from the outside to sneak in. 

Secondly, we went ahead and waterproofed the basement with our TripleSafe Sump Pump System! For normal functioning, the TripleSafe™ has a powerful, cast-iron Zoeller® ⅓ horsepower sump pump set at the lowest level. For heavy volumes of water or in case of primary pump failure, a second, more powerful Zoeller® ½ hp pump set a bit higher in the liner will take over. In case of a power outage, our UltraSump® battery backup sump pump, set at the highest level, will pump 11,500 gallons or more on a fully charged battery!

During heavy rainstorms water leaks into the basement near the bulkhead. There are minor cracks where the bulkhead meets the basement that appear to be the source of the leaks.
